Blink for me
lightning
bug.

Sing for me
cricket
legs.

Soar for me
winged
bat.

I am merely human
and cannot be
what you are
so freely.

I ask of you—
though I have no claim—
be my soul guide
through the night.

This wondrous world—
gifted to unworthy me.

The lyrics to “Cricket Legs” were inspired by this poem. I wrote “Night Hour” sitting on my back patio, watching the evening turn to night.

Fireflies lit up the grass, glowing dots winking in and out. A bat dodged overhead and the crickets began to sing.

I hope I was able to capture some of the serenity I felt amidst the comforting chaos of night.
